Classical Revolution was founded on November 12th 2006 by Charith Premawardhana at Revolution Cafe in the Mission District of San Francisco. The Classical Revolution model has spread around the world, with nearly 30 active chapters iin cities around the US, Canada, and Europe. "The mission of Classical Revolution is to present live chamber music involving both traditional and modern approaches to the art form while engaging a broad and diverse community by offering these performances at low or no cost in highly accessible venues, such as cafes and bars. By taking chamber music out of the recital hall and making it more accessible to an audience who would not otherwise hear such music live, we hope a broader public will appreciate chamber music’s relevance. Thus, we hope to weave this music into a cultural landscape presently populated by more mainstream forms of musical entertainment.
The Baltimore chapter was founded in October 2011 at the Bohemian Coffee House. Since then, we have organized over 80 performances in non-traditional venues. Classical Revolution Baltimore has featured on the front page of the Baltimore Sun's Arts section and performed at TEDxMidAtlantic 2012.
